Our Story
Built From a Shortage
Metal Dreams is a family-owned business and because of one problem. In the wake of panel supply’s collapse during the pandemic, Arkansas contractors were quoting jobs that they weren’t able to get to or schedule, with one builder in Springdale waiting 11 weeks on material sitting in an out-of-state warehouse, and one farm in Pine Bluff waiting a season for a roofing job. We began filling that void with locally provided panels and the void proved to be permanent. Here there was never any real solution to the problem of reliable in-state supply.
But behind that decision is 25 years of hands-on roofing and siding installation. That matters more than it sounds. People who have spent decades on a roof deck know which rib profiles oil-can in August heat, which trim details start leaking in year six, and which panels fight the installer at every seam. It is those years that help define our type of profile and our level of trim and our tolerances. We provide panels as we would have wanted them provided when hanging them.
What "American-Made" Actually Means Here
All of our panels and trim pieces are coil from American suppliers and mills. No middle man or distributor overseas in that chain, and no anonymous middle distributor determining the quality that makes it to an Arkansas job site. It’s a closed loop. Domestic scrap to a domestic mill, coil to us, finished panels to buildings in Conway, Bentonville and wherever — where they will be recycled again. It is important to purchase here which helps keep that loop in the country and the work associated with it in Arkansas.
Lower-Carbon Steel: Why Local Processing Cuts Emissions
It is not the most carbon-intensive component of panel supply that is the production of the steel. It’s hauling it. With conventional distribution, the same product is distributed three or four times: Mill to processor, processor to regional warehouse, regional warehouse to distributor, and distributor to you. Weight has diesel proportionality; each leg burns diesel.
Processing in-state collapses that. A panel that goes to Fayetteville does not go through either Texas or Missouri. The emissions saved are real, and so is the freight cost — which shows up in your quote instead of in someone’s margin.
Recycled Content: What's Inside Our Coil
One of the reasons steel does better than nearly all other building materials on lifecycle impact is that our coil is made with the highest percentage of recycled ferrous scrap. The material can be recycled indefinitely and doesn’t lose a centimetre of its structural integrity, so a steel girder can become a car door, which can become your roof.
Our panels have a service life of over 40 years expected and at the end of that life the material is not charged a landfill fee, but has scrap value. Asphalt shingles are removed and buried every 15-20 years. Steel doesn’t. That is a circular-economy choice (or not) regardless of whether it is one you made.
Design Innovation: 3D Visualization Before You Commit
We invest in tools that let you see the building before it exists. Our 3D software will show you your structure with all of your dimensions, panel profiles and color options, which means you’re approving a picture rather than imagining one. Combined with the custom metal printing, it transforms a plain material into a designing choice for architecture.
High-Definition Wood-Look Metal Panels
Our specialty prints deliver the appearance of real timber with the performance of steel. The grain is scanned at high resolution, so each finish is created from a real wood and the grain is never repeated in a pattern that would show from 20 feet.
Current finishes include Barnwood, Rough Gray Cedar for rustic and agricultural buildings, Smooth Cedar for contemporary exteriors and Japanese Carbon-Charred Larch for a dark shou sugi ban finish. That is why all are equally fire-resistant, pest-proof and have a life of 40 years plus. You get the look without the maintenance schedule.
